The Smock Story

rocking smockinG,
hand smocking reimagined

We are the artisan fashion brand on a mission to modernise the art of smocking for the 21st century girl. We reinvent smocking to be as bold and brilliant as Women and Girls today. Our Smocks are made to rock: hand made works of art that leap off the dress in a technicolour twirl of handstitched joy. All our pieces are individually smocked by hand; they are designed in London using the finest threads and fabrics and made by artisans in very limited numbers. Every order supports our makers through a donation to girls and women in need in their community.

hand smocked by artisans

As our name suggests, smocking craftsmanship is at our heart. Every Smock London piece is individually hand-sewn by artisans. Hand-smocking is a skill which takes time, each dress takes up to three days to complete and mastering the craft takes years of practice. Collections are produced slowly in limited editions and conceived to be passed down generations. The result is unique, heirloom quality pieces that are better for the artisans and for the planet.

supporting artisan communities

Collections are designed in London and brought to life by craft communities in Madagascar and Vietnam using responsibly sourced fabrics and threads from industry leading French maker DMC. Supporting these artisan communities and safeguarding this age-old craft is a founding principle, we are committed to making our growth a force for good. For every sale, a donation is made to a child or woman in need within the community of Smock London’s artisans.

smocks made to rock!

It is the modern reinvention of the heritage craft of Smocking that truly sets Smock apart. We take vintage inspired silhouettes and boldly reimagine them for the 21st century. Sour lemon, cherry pie and funky flamingo might sound like delicious cocktail ingredients, but they are in fact the names of the zingy neon and rainbow threads used for our signature smocking. Our smocking isn’t shy and retiring but runs riot over liberty print dresses and crisp cotton nightdresses in the most raucous and rebellious way – these are Smocks made to rock!
