sustainability
a quieter way of making
Nature is our greatest inspiration. We strive to honour it in everything we do, creating pieces with care and intention, and considering their impact on the world we share.
low impact craft
In a world where most clothing is produced in factories, our hand smocking stands apart. Each piece is shaped stitch by stitch by skilled human hands rather than heavy machinery, allowing the craft to unfold at a slower, more considered pace. Hand smocking is not organised around production runs or factory systems. It is a community led craft, practised in small local groups where skill, time, and care determine the rhythm of making. Hand smocking offers flexibility and autonomy, respecting family, home, and the natural rhythm of daily life. This human centred approach creates a gentler impact on both people and planet, and allows the craft to remain rooted in care rather than industrial scale.
made to last
Our pieces are designed as future heirlooms, conceived to be worn, loved, and passed on. Designed with longevity in mind and made slowly by hand, our pieces are created to become part of a family story, often handed down from mother to daughter, carrying memories forward.
limited editions
By producing in limited editions, we are able to plan carefully and avoid overproduction, creating in response to demand rather than excess. This considered approach allows time, care, and skill to shape every piece, while reducing unnecessary waste across our supply chain. Working in limited numbers also protects the integrity of hand smocking itself, a craft that cannot be rushed or scaled without losing its meaning. Each piece is made with purpose, ensuring it has a home, and honouring both the craftswomen behind our collections and the resources required to bring each piece to life.
deadstock fabrics
Around 60 percent of our collections are made using deadstock fabrics, beautiful existing materials that might otherwise go unused. Working with deadstock allows us to create with what already exists rather than producing new materials unnecessarily. These fabrics often come with their own history, character and limitations, which we see as a creative opportunity. By choosing deadstock wherever possible, we reduce waste, minimise excess, and honour the resources already in circulation, while continuing to create pieces that feel joyful, timeless, and full of life.
thoughtful choices
It is important to us that the quality of our fabrics carries the weight of the artistry itself. We choose materials for their beauty, durability, and ability to age gracefully, ensuring they are worthy of the time, skill, and care invested in every piece.
Our collections are designed in London and brought to life by craft communities in Madagascar and Vietnam, using a thoughtful mix of deadstock fabrics and responsibly sourced materials. This includes organic cottons, embroidery threads from the French heritage maker DMC, and fabrics from longstanding British names such as Liberty of London.
Beyond the fabrics we use, we are mindful of waste at every stage of our supply chain. By working with deadstock fabrics, and taking a considered approach to packaging and logistics, we aim to reduce excess wherever possible. Our packaging is designed to be recyclable and responsibly produced and continually reviewed as we grow, reflecting the same care and intention that guide our making.
looking forward
Sustainability is a journey, not a destination. While we do not claim perfection, we are committed to continually learning, improving, and making decisions that respect our planet, our people, and the craft we cherish.
