brightening lives ones stitch at a time
our ethics
At Smock London, we believe beautiful craft should create lasting good in the world. Every decision we make is guided by a desire to honour the craftswomen who bring our designs to life, the women and girls who wear our clothes, and the world we all share.

people at our heart
We choose to work slowly and intentionally, partnering with craft communities where shared values and close partnership shape every piece we create. We believe in respectful and responsible working practices rooted in fair and equitable employment, good working conditions, and safe environments. We do not condone child labour, forced labour, or exploitation of any kind.
Practised within homes and communities, hand smocking allows work to unfold in harmony with the natural rhythm of daily life, offering flexibility and autonomy that respects family, home, and the many responsibilities women hold beyond their craft. Through this work, hand smocking also provides a meaningful and flexible source of income, enabling our craftswomen to support their families and invest in the futures of their children and grandchildren, while sustaining skills carried forward through generations. We make an annual trip to personally visit our artisans. Please see Meet The Artisans to get to know the team.

responsible partnerships
We are committed to responsible and ethical practices across our supply chain, guided by the UN Women’s Empowerment Principles, the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and the principles of the World Fair Trade Organisation.
We work with a small number of trusted production partners who share our values. All key suppliers are expected to sign and adhere to our Supplier Code of Conduct, which outlines our expectations on fair working conditions, safe environments, ethical business practices and respect for human rights. We maintain regular dialogue with our partners and conduct periodic reviews to ensure these standards continue to be upheld as our business grows.

craft, community & impact
We make decisions that protect the dignity of the craftswomen who create our pieces while reducing waste and environmental impact. In practice, this means building fair and respectful partnerships, supporting safe and flexible working environments, producing thoughtfully in limited quantities, and holding ourselves accountable by tracking our progress.
Supporting the communities behind our collections is an important part of our responsibility as a brand. For every Smock London purchase, a contribution is made to support a woman or child within our artisan communities. These contributions are directed both to trusted charitable organisations, such as Blue Dragon Children’s Foundation, and to locally coordinated support within our artisan networks. This may include assistance with healthcare, medical needs, or periods of illness, helping ensure the women behind our collections have access to practical support when it is most needed.
As Smock London grows, so too does our ability to support the communities who keep this remarkable craft alive. In this way, every piece purchased contributes not only to safeguarding the craft of hand smocking, but also to supporting the wellbeing of the communities who keep this remarkable tradition alive.
Our approach to craft, community and responsible production has also been independently recognised. In 2026 we are proud to announce that we have been certified with the Butterfly Mark, a symbol of the Real Changemakers in luxury. Find out more here.
